hello! i’m Lillia
Sewist, Pattern Maker, Teacher
Sewing has been a generational job in my family. It has allowed our family to start businesses, care for family, and stay connected to our creativity. All while teaching these skills and passing them down with the next generation.
I was taught how to sew at 4 years old, where I made an M&M fabric tube top and skirt. Since then, I have pursued a BA in Fashion Design from Texas Woman’s University, worked as a technical designer at Hangar Clothing, and started a local sewing school for the community here in Denton, TX in 2021.
Currently, I am a TA at TWU in the Fashion Design & Merchandising department. I assist in basic construction classes, pattern making, mass production techniques, and other higher level courses. My end goal is to share the love and passion I have for sewing with the community, and help build the next generation of designers with confidence, creativity, and awareness on sustainable production.

Community Outreach

In 2021, I envisioned a sewing school for the community…
I realized that there was a hole in the sewing community. That hole was a welcoming sewing educational enviroment for adults of all skill levels. Since November ’21, the Denton Sewing School has taught over 80 students ranging from 7-70 practical, life changing sewing skills.

Reuse Runway
The Reuse Runway is a fashion show hosted by the sewing school and city partners that encourages participants to create garments using items that would have otherwise been thrown away. While exploring Sustainability, we teach participants the art of reusing unconventional materials, to create a whole new work of art.
