Welcome to another blog post! And today, I am sharing my favorite holiday sewing projects that are quick, easy, and are sure to WOW at any holiday dinner! From easy button down’s you can knock out in an afternoon, to the vintage classic Walkaway dress. These classic silhouettes are perfect for any body type and will be great in a simple cotton, or go all out and go the extra mile and make it in a satin! Either way, these easy looks are great for a beginner or advanced sewist alike!
The Walkaway Dress
Butterwick pattern 4790 is a classic that many vintage sewists love. If you can find an uncut completely intact pattern, you’re looking at a pretty rare and expensive vintage pattern! However, thanks to the love and dedication of Stephanie Canada, now YOU can sew the Walkaway Dress this holiday! This dress is iconic for its easy sew that says you can start after breakfast, and “walkaway” with a new dress by lunch! Making this the perfect quick sew for any holiday event!
Sewing this pattern? You’ll need about 4 3/4 yards of fabric, 1/4 yard elastic, 3 buttons, 7 1/2 yards of bias fold, and about 3 hours to sew
Mood Sewciety: Noelle Sweater
This cozy sweater is perfect to stay warm, cozy, and of course gives a little room to hide that extra slice of pie! Plus, when you tell your family that you made it yourself, they’ll be asking if you can make them one for sure! The Noelle Sweater is a great project that can also be done after breakfast in time for a late lunch early dinner family gathering. I would recommend sewing any knit products with a serger, but this type of fabric can absolutely be done without one. Oh, and did I mention it’s 100% free?!
Sewing this pattern? You’ll need 2 yards of rib knit for this project and about 4 hours to sew.
Mood Sewciety: The Clay Blouse
I love a good button down. They go with jeans, skirts, trousers, as a layering piece, you name it. Plus, this easy top is perfect in a chic cotton print fabric or even try it in a sustainable rayon from Mood! Either way, a classic button down with high rise jeans is a great look for any holiday party. The Clay Blouse is a great unisex look that can go hyper femme, or be super masculine depending on the fabric. For advanced sewists, this is a quick day project, but for a novice, it may be more of a two day project. Nevertheless, this shirt is a fun project that is sure to wow this season!
Sewing this pattern? You’ll need 2 yards of fabric, 1/2 yard of interfacing, 4-5 buttons, and about 5-7 hours to sew.
Sewing tools for a quick sew
When it comes to a quick project, there’s a few tools that are a must for me to have for a great finished garment. Of course, my electric scissors from Pink Power Tools. These puppies make cutting fabric a breeze! If you have a sew serge machine, like the Singer professional 5 thread, you’ll be able to sew AND serge all in one, making your basic seams a breeze. I know it might not seem like it will make a difference, but a quality thread really makes the sewing process go much smoother! I love the Guterman thread for projects I am looking to have a quality finishing touch with. Check out my favs below!
