You get a text from your bestie saying they can’t wait to see you for brunch in an hour! You completely forgot about it, and you don’t want to cancel…BUT, you haven’t even gotten ready yet! Do you:
- PANIC!! Run to your closet and rush through 10 looks only to give-up and reschedule
- Rush to your closet, contemplate a dress, a jumpsuit, maybe a sweater? But ultimately end up in leggings and a cardigan.
Let’s be real for a second, we’ve all done one. Forgotten we were supposed to meet someone and don’t want to spend the energy getting ready or sifting through our massive wardrobe trying to find something that may (or may not) work or make us feel confident.
When it comes to your go-to look, you can also take into consideration what you will be doing on the regular. Are you commuting and need a sleek and comfortable look to get you from point A to point B in a timely manner? Maybe you’re able to walk everywhere and need a go to look that can move with you as you travel. Taking into consideration what you day to day looks like will help guide your go to look in the right direction!
First things first…
When you type into google, find your personal style, there’s roughly 5.8 billion results that pull up. Meaning that if you already didn’t know where to start, the potential of 5.8 billion results could overwhelm you potentially to the point of giving up on your search, and just ordering the latest thing you saw in a marketing email. Only to never wear it and it collects dust on the hanger. Finding your personal style in an era where we are told what to like and when can feel impossible. However, for me the journey was actually easier than I expected, and a whole lot of fun! Plus, it’s allowed me to not only curb my shopping cravings, but feel satisfied with that I own already. So let’s dive into today’s post on finding your go to look!
When you approach your go-to outfit, understanding your personal style tendencies is a great place to start. If you’ve never thought about this, a great place to start is the FREE Cladwell style quiz! This quick quiz will be a great jumping off point for finding your go to look if you haven’t thought about what your particular style tendencies are. For me, my results were hometown, timeless, with a hint of smart casual. Meaning I lean towards the girl next door vibe with a hint of casual jeans and work tops for my wardrobe. Which ironically, leads me into my go to wardrobe look
Picking your go to tops
I have a list of 2 types of tops that fit my style from my style quiz, black and white t-shirts and white button downs. Yes, I did indeed put a specific color because this helps narrow the playing field when it comes to tops. These are also pieces that I may have multiple silhouettes of so I can keep my go to look feeling fresh, without repetitive feeling. When you pick your top(s), you want to think of a basic piece in your wardrobe that can be versatile. What can be paired with these tops that fits my style and will make me feel put together? This also allows me to invest in higher quality pieces for these basics. This is because I know I will be wearing them often, so I want these items to last longer and stay look fresh! Here’s my pick for basic tops that I love!

Picking your go to bottoms
The perfect go to bottom to me, flatters your figure. It took me YEARS to figure this out with quite a bit of trial and error. I was a die hard skinny jean wearer from 7th grade all the way to my junior year of college. As my body developed, I have hips that don’t lie and am very curvy. So, while skinny jeans were flattering in a sense, I wanted to feel chic! Introducing curvy straight bottoms. My go to silhouette now is a curvy straight, cigarette pant style, slim straight, or a traditional straight.
When you pick your bottoms, going back to your style quiz, you want to consider items that you won’t get tired of wearing and are timeless. Iconic bottoms like jeans, a Ponte pant, or a pencil skirt are great go to items that you can really stock up on. This way, your look stays timeless, but still you!
Picking your go to layers
When it comes to layers, it could be a variety of things. A trench coat for winter, cropped jacket for fall, vest or shawl for spring, or just nothing at all for summer! Your go to layer should be something that changes with the seasons. For me, my go to jacket for fall and winter is my VETTA Capsule convertible trench. While for spring and summer, it’s an oversized denim jacket. Both coats fall under my style categories, while still change and evolve with the seasons!
Picking your go to accessories
Complete the look with accessories. For me, you’ll always find me with a mejuri letter necklace and an arrow chain necklace, my forever bracelet, and a few pairs of earrings! These items define my accessory style. Simple and iconic. Something that won’t go out of style! A great accessory inspiration is @Sammijefcoate on IG and Tik Tok! Her getting ready videos define her sense of style, and she uses accessories to define the finished look!
You can never have too many accessories, and they’re a great way to keep your go to outfits looking fresh season after season. Try changing up bags, shoes, and little detail items each time you wear your go to looks. It’s the perfect way to spice things up!
The Final Look
Put it all together and what have you got? Your go-to look for those whoops moments or maybe even your personal uniform of sorts! I know my go-to look is one that I absolutely love because it makes me feel confident, chic, and super cool. Ready to make your own go to look?
